Trichloroethylene

No.CAS:79-01-6

Trichloroethylene is a highly efficient, non-flammable chlorinated solvent with excellent degreasing and solvency properties. Historically, it was primarily used as a metal degreasing agent, dry-cleaning solvent, and extraction solvent, and also acted as a chemical intermediate for the production of refrigerants such as HFC-134a. Due to its toxicity and environmental concerns, its modern industrial applications are strictly regulated, and eco-friendly alternatives are being sought.

Description

Trichloroethylene (abbreviated as TCE, CAS No.: 79-01-6) is an important halogenated hydrocarbon. Throughout the 20th century, it was widely used as the solvent of choice for vapor degreasing and cold cleaning of metal parts to remove oils, grease, and wax; it was also a significant dry-cleaning solvent and an extraction agent for natural products like caffeine. In the chemical industry, it is a key intermediate in the production of chemicals such as perchloroethylene and the refrigerant alternative HFC-134a. However, trichloroethylene has been proven to depress the central nervous system, with hepatotoxicity and potential carcinogenic risks, and is persistent in the environment, posing long-term pollution risks to soil and groundwater. Consequently, global regulation of its industrial use has become increasingly stringent (e.g., restrictions under the EU REACH regulation), and many traditional applications have been replaced by less toxic, more readily biodegradable solvents (e.g., alkanes, glycol ethers). Currently, its compliant use is primarily confined to closed chemical production processes as an intermediate, or for specific industrial cleaning under strict control. Our product is industrial-grade trichloroethylene, manufactured in Shandong, China, with a purity of ≥99.5%. We must emphasize that the sale, transportation, storage, and use of this product must strictly comply with all Chinese and international laws, regulations, and safety standards for hazardous chemicals. Operators require professional training and must be equipped with comprehensive personal protective equipment (PPE) and engineering controls.
